  • midnightatutopia.

You -USA. head of state -President Barak Hussien Ombama = republic.

Me- Scotland. Head of State - HM Queen Elizabeth 1st of Scotland = Kingdom.

England - Head of State - HM Queen Elizabeth 2nd of England = Kingdom.

Australia -Head of State, HM Queen Elizabeth II = Kingdom.

CANADA - Head of State - HM Queen Elizabeth the second of Canada = Kingdom.

Where the Head of State is a Monarch I believe it is safe to call that country a Kingdom!

  • Queen Elizabeth is Head of the 53 nation Commonwealth including the republics of India, Pakistan, Malta, Sth Africa and many others with a political head of state. The countries where the Queen is HEAD OF STATE are all ....Ummm ? - YES - Kingdoms. lol.

There are four countries that make up the United Kingdom: - England, Nth Ireland, Scotland, and Wales. Each with their own culture and history: and in the case of Wales and parts of Scotland.

  • OK I see....

I'm still not convinced, but I'll take your word for it :-)

  • Canada is a "Commonwealth Realm" - so are Scotland, Australia, England, et-al.

Realm : Oxford English Dictionary - A Kingdom, Domain.

Realm: Cambridge dictionary - Noun (formal) a country ruled by a King or Queen.

Kingdom: Ox Eng Dict - A country where a King or Queens reigns.

  • Interesting....but I don't think so. I did some research: according to the British Monarchy website, Canada is a "Commonwealth Realm". I wouldn't call it a "Kingdom", but I'll take your word for it...

  • The British civilized you.

  • LOL...ok...interesting...I've just never heard of Canada being referred to as a "Kingdom". The United Kingdom is Great Britain + Northern Ireland... My Canadian friends tell me Canada is a country, a member of the Commonwealth, but never thought of it as being part of a "kingdom".
