i want to root the lg eve but an update is coming out soon to 1.6, will i loose everything and will my root apps still work?

assuming you flash to a new rom, you will not be shown the OTA update, so if you want to use the upcoming OTA you will most likely lose your root. But most people just flash to the new version, there may even be 2.1 roms for the "eve", i dont know i havent looked myself

I'm running 1.5 and 32b board (canada ,Rogers mobile HTC DREAM) installed flashrec and no go,im getting what many have gotten backup failed!! i formatted sd card prior and followed the info
downloaded the right file ..ANY Help would be appreciated.

No, it isn't, but if something happens to your phone software and if you don't remove the root, you will most likely loose your warranty. The root is amazingly easy to remove, so the case above is very rare.
