We had a new carpet fitted a couple of weeks ago and just before the carpet men arrived the room was empty and had a nice reverb, so I got in there and had a little practice. I've been playing just under 3 years, so really I was playing a bit fast for myself here inducing the usual bum notes.

The Merry Blacksmith is a very popular session tune in D. Also called Paddy on the Railroad.

The Twelve Pins is a Charlie Lennon tunes named after the mountains in Connemara. The A part is in G and the B part is in D mixolydian. http://www.thesession.org/tunes/display/1333

  • Nice tone and even playing. Work on learning and incorporating finger ornamentation and getting crisper bow ornaments. Also, try to get a swing in the music. It's all about the rhythm. I must also mention that the B part you play for Twelve Pins is atrocious. That's not how Charlie wrote it. It's a really sloppy version and it doesn't showcase the beauty of the tune. We play that tune a lot and I heard Charlie playing it live earlier this year. Invest in getting his albums for the best version.
