When hitting stationary, solid, immovable object, when all other things are equal (like build strength and materials used), physics says smaller and lighter is better. There is less mass and therefore less energy. However....(see next response)
When a small, light car like the Smart hits head on, even with a mid sized car like the Camry or worse an SUV, the problem is not that the passenger area collapses, but that the Smart will deflect several feet esp during an offset crash as much as 20'-30'. Also, The violent change in motion is very bad for passengers, not to mention the deflection could hurl it over a bridge or embankment and down a hill. Search YT for "Mercedes C vs smart fortwo" OR watch?v=sKSPxQjPOm0 as an example
@randyseck in most cities, 35 mph is the speed limit unless otherwise posted. 2 objects moving in opposing directions at 35 mph would make for a 70 mph collision, no?
if you guys knew anything about crash dynamics you would realize that car actually held up remarkably well for its size. the cabin is relatively intact
regardless, taking any car from 70-0 in a half second is going to fuck you up
THERE IS NO GOD!

@vilebastage No. They did that on mythbusters and proved that it is not. I don't remember why.

Looks like it survived pretty good to me, Id say with the roll cage and air bag you could walk away.
