Clinton couldn't have been riding Reagan's economy since there was a different administration in between Reagan and Clinton called Bush Sr.

Bush Sr raised taxes and deviated greatly from Reaganomics.

You can't ride an economy for 12 years, anyway.

Clinton also raised taxes and then presided over the largest economic expansion in our history and left office with a budget surplus.

Actually, you've put your finger on the reason why the news has had a conservative bias for the last 30 years, and it's rarely discussed.

Most reporters DO have a liberal bias because that's the kind of background they come from. Being aware of that bias, however, caused them to be more sensitive to the charge of bias from the conservative camp, and they bent over backwards to accomodate them. They essentailly over-compensated.
