Drugs?

He had a knack for imagery, but, overall, over-rated. And as far as being interviewed, or being a public speaker, he mumbled his way through every engagement he ever had. Not impressed.

I've read the late Mr Thompson, and i even wrote him once, asking for an autograph, in 1982. And he wrote back. Not some form letter, either, a real handwritten letter-i still have it. And anybody who's seen his scrawl in Steadman's paintings would recognize who wrote the short, friendly letter he sent back. HST was a wonderfully complex, brilliant, and genuinely hazardous person, but a true Kentucky gentleman to the end!

It is sad and unfortunate that so many do not appreciate the value of a letter.
