Notice anything crazy about the way people are driving?
It's a miracle that there aren't a lot more wrecks.
I'm going a steady 65 except when forced slower by traffic. The limit is 70, slowing to 65, 60, 55 in town. Most of the traffic passing me is probably going 80 or more. Even the truckers no longer drive safely ... because this corridor is used by drivers who aren't quite trained to US trucker safety standards, I guess. You never used to see big heavy trucks tailgating autos at speed, changing lanes without signalling, or boxing in traffic... but now you do. And the number of "alligators" -- blown tire parts -- from overweight and undermaintained trucks is an increasing hazard. When cars and trucks clump up so closely, at 70 mph, there's no time or space to avoid those things, and I see damaged vehicles beside the road just about every time I make the trip.

Ahh... I see. That was YOU in that Dodge Ram pulling the trailer, going 85 in a 70 mph zone, weaving in and out of traffic, splitting the lane with the speeding Mexican overloaded 18-wheeler.

It is much better to maintain ones speed and move to the right to allow faster cars to pass and then merge back into that lane which predominately matches your desired speed than to choose a slower lane and try and drive at a higher speed than that lane affords on average. It is the constant braking that sets up traffic surges that can lead to greater complications. Drivers should try changing lanes in a manner that takes at least 5 turn signal flashes to complete.

I see a noticeable delay in the film drivers awareness that they are gaining on a slower vehicle. Nearly all collision on freeways are the result of improper speed matching and improper lane changing - much of what I observed the film driver doing in this video. Another serious error on the drivers part was using the right most lanes for an extended trip. These lanes should be reserved merging and trucking as trucks are confined to these lanes in many states. (cont)
