when Jesus was on the cross and they weren't sure if he was dead, the guard stuck a spear into his side and water came out from his wound. when he spoke to Thomas he told him to touch his hands and side to see that his injuries were real. he didn't get stitched up he would has bled to death if he hadn't been dead on the cross already. He died and was resurrected.
