India and Maldives inked bilateral agreements on a credit standing facility and air services today.
The three-day visit of Maldives President Mohammad 'Anni' Nasheed to India is the new presidents first official visit abroad.
Maldives' Nasheed has called for greater bilateral relations and has asked the Indian industrialists and entrepreneurs to invest in state owned industries of the Maldives.
Mohamed Nasheed, a democratic activist who was jailed repeatedly by former Maslives President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, made history in October when he defeated the three decade incumbent in the countrys first-ever multi-party elections.
Nasheed has inherited a host of problems, including high levels of heroin addiction, rising crime levels and the possible slowdown in its vital tourist industry.
