#7000-#7134, a 1996 Orion 05.501 Vs ordered in 1995 and built in 1996 as a 3:2 replacement for the failing Orion 03.501 III artics. They were also the first accessible vehicles for the TTC. This order was originally placed with Nova Bus, presumably for their Classic model.
These models were the counterparts of 1991-1992 Orion 05.501 Vs, numbered #6640-#6745 ordered and built in 1991 and 1992 to replace the older New Looks and were retired between 2007-2009 after serious frame corrosion, with a few lasted into early 2010. #6734 was retired in 2010 as the last bus in the series.
All of these buses have been overhauled by the TTC from June 2004 to February 2006. #7000 was done in 2003, however. This included mechanical and cosmetic work. The body panels on some buses have been replaced with fibreglass panels which do not corrode.
These units have a Detroit Diesel Series 50 @ 275hp engine and a Allison World B400-R WTEC 5 speed transmission. (Its 106 sisters had a Detroit Diesel 6V92TA @ 253hp engine and a Allison World B400-R WTEC 5 speed transmission. They originally carried a ZF 4HP500 transmission before they were deemed unreliable in service until 1997.) Originally assigned to Arrow Road (later, New Eglinton where UWE retrofit took place) and Malvern Divisions, They are currently allocated to Malvern Division. These units will expect to retire by late 2012 or 2013.
