Director: Adrin Neatrour. The films presents the work and inventions of a perpetual motion mind, Dr David Jones, a well known for the entertaining and mischievous weekly column that he wrote for New Scientist Magazine which he signed off under the pen-name of Daedalus. In his own right, an experimental scientist of some repute, Dr Jones has a passionate belief that science can be accessible fun and stimulating.
Dr Jones makes claim on our best attention with devices and demonstrations such as his curious animation machine that conjures up the illusion of movement, the principle of the sewing machine, the aerodynamic properties of jelly moulds and plastic bottles and the strange uses of steam.
Dr Jones in himself embodies the resolve of the scientific mind to engage with the world and all its trials. And his focus is of course the perpetual motion machine itself. A fake, an object lesson for our incredulous attention and a mystery to all, except its maker.
