Koalas

Australian Wildlife. Koalas have to be one of the worlds most loveable animals. Rare in the wild, they can be seen, and sometimes held, in many of Australias wildlife parks or zoos. They are highly specialised eaters, and will only eat the leaves of a few species of eucalypt. Because of the toxic nature of these leaves, Koalas have a more complex digestive system, one that requires up to twenty hours to process the food. Consequently Koalas tend to sleep a lot, a fact which can make Koala watching a bit of a non-event. In our movie, however, we do manage to catch Koalas doing a bit more than sleeping, and for the close observer another fact reveals itself. A Koala has two thumbs.
