Powerful conclusion of the episode "1942: Battle of Midway" from the excellent BBC series "20th Century Battlefields" in which the hosts summarize the aftermath of the Japanese defeat at the Battle of Midway. Dan Snow speaks from the beaches of Midway Atoll, while Peter Snow concludes from none other than the USS Missouri itself.

The conclusive American victory is assessed with both the raw numbers of the battle (the Japanese dead numbered ten times the American dead) and the Japanese war effort (the Japanese materiel loss was a major contribution to the halt of the Japanese offensive).

The significance of the battle on World War II as a whole is highlighted, showing footage of the Japanese surrender on the USS Missouri, followed by a ominous prelude to the nuclear age.
