Chihuly glass blowing at Iittala factory

13 artists from Dale Chihuly's studio in Seattle came to Finland to work in Nuutajärvi, one of the places where Iittala glass is made. Here they're blowing a large piece for an upcoming exhibition.

So where is Dale blowing glass?

Title says Chihuly glass blowing. I can't find a single video from anywhere or anytime period where he is actually blowing the glass?

@bluerazors He doesn't. When he lost his eye sight, he moved behind the scenes. He has no depth perception or perifial? view which makes blowing glass in a team setting hard and unsafe. He either directs on what to do or draws the image to be replicated.

Chihuly himself hasn't been able to blow glass since the late 70s when he dislocated his shoulder in an accident - he can't hold the pipe. Instead he designs the individual pieces, directs the glassblowers, and assembles the final work. This team approach is traditional among Murano glassblowers in order to make large and/or intricate pieces beyond a single person's capabilities.

dont u know...dale dont blow glass...when u got the worlds best to do it for him...

He really provides the vision nowadays, and some guidance during the blowing process. He has had a big team working for him for like the last decade. He and his team mostly do large installations now.
