The spotted salamanders come out on the first warm, rainy night in Spring. They congress at vernal pools-most likely the ones in which they first came out of. The males arrive first laying spermatophores. The females arrive and the males perform their ritual of nudges and movement. All of this happens within a week (sometimes even less time). For more information on vernal pools check out www.ovpp.org or www.theoec.org
