"The two of us were roommates at North Texas; the other two were roommates," Mike Eli said. "We got got together and realized we kind of made a band."

And eleven years later, the Eli Young Band says not a whole lot has changed.

"We started in college, and in a lot of ways we never left that mentality, " John Jones said. "There are nine people riding in close quarters on a tour bus on the road. You just have to make the best of the situation. It's a lot of fun though."

The four guys from Denton, Texas are certainly capitalizing on country music success. Their latest single, "Crazy Girl" has them seeing gold.

"'Crazy Girl' is the first single off of 'Life at Best,' Eli said. "It's sort of changed everything for us. It's our first gold single. It's going to be pretty incredible how fans respond to the album since they've already been downloading 'Crazy Girl' so much on iTunes."

Tuesday's release of "Life at Best" is an important day for the band, as this record signifies a real turning point in the band's evolution.

"This is the first album we've done where we were all in the same studio all at the same time," Eli said. " Everything else we've done before has been split up. Two to three songs here and there-- it was all split up. There's a continuity to this record."

It's the blessing of achieving mainstream success.

"We've had some incredibly surreal moments," Eli said. "Playing the Houston Rodeo in front of 60,000 people, which is our biggest crowd ever, was great. The Jay Leno show was big. Playing the Grand Ole Opry was huge."

You can certainly bet, though, that the Eli Young Band has more of those moments in its future.

"We've definitely accomplished a lot of our goals," John Jones said. "We still have a lot to do. We never want to feel like we're there yet."

Eli Young Band's "Life at Best" hits store shelves Tuesday, August 16th.
