1960 Saab 2-Stroke

Here's another look at my vintage 1960 Saab. I sold this to a fellow in SF who sold it into Texas. Still down in the lone star state as far as I know. You can see more pictures of this saab, and a lot of others on my old Saabspot site. (Keyword search: saabspot )

I had heard back in 1967 that these three cylinder two stroke Saabs werer fast. I was driving a new GTO at the time. One day I came up to a stop light along side one of these two strokes, so I decided to find out how fast. On light change I got on the goat in first, didn't smoke the tires but wound it out in first about 45 mph expecting to see the Saab in my rear view mirror. Wasn't there! Looked left and he was right along side. Hit second and wound out to about 65, Saab still there! Are fast !

At the end of this road is a killer dropping corner that was a blast to freewheel through.

Once I had a guy in a Porche riding my tail. He wasn't a local, so he didn't know I was taking him into the killer corner. I freewheel through it at 50 without tapping the brake brakes and watched in my rear view mirror as he had to slow down radically to keep from spinning out. Sweet Saab Memories!

We had our flat above a SAAB 93 owners garage when I was young, in the sixties. Can still remember the exhaust smell from our food store, just on top of the garage. Especially on cold Swedish winterday when the two stroke engine was warming up before departure.......")-

My grandpa had one in the mid 70's, he was the only one at the worksite in the forest getting his car running

in -35 celsius, and in the summers he were the fastest on the roads, you could push it up to about 180 km/h, nothing close to what the Ford Taunus V4 could do.
