Two heavyweight chess players battle it out in the 1938 World Championship qualifier in a masterpiece by Botvinnik. Capablanca played a great game but underestimate the power of the passed pawn.

  • @Papajack55 En-passant is one of the strangest thing in chess ... but makes it more interresting too :)

  • queen is a 'she'

  • people that dont beleive in em passant shouldnt be allowed to play chess.

  • @Mintyboy4 Sorry just realised its check haha.

  • Wouldn't it have been better to try to perpetual check at 27:00 while black would still have both his knights to help?

That was my initial thought at that moment. I felt how capablanca continued he had no chance..

  • @calidude146 ... the Queen IS considered the most valuable piece. I'm just kidding of course, because what you meant to say is the piece that's considered most valuable AT THE TIME. Of course, you're correct. But for algebraic analyzation, rating for pieces do mean something.

  • @Azkadaz in the end, ratings for pieces don't mean anything; it's how you use the pieces on the board that determine their value. for example, if the queen was considered to be the most valuable piece, fischer would've never made his famous queen sacrifice against byrne.

  • @Hellmuth4 as far as i know, kevin was under no obligation to post this video in the first place, so just be grateful for what we've been given.

  • What software do you guys use. I use Scid if any of you have a better free software please tell me. I said free because I don't have enough money to spend on something I could have a alternative for free.
