  • Fun Fact:

Sam was inspired by his sons death

    When he did this one,

And a Woman in the studio noticed Sam's Voice break on one of the takes as he said

    "Theres no crying"

She lastly Mentioned that he began to cry as he sang that part

  • My daughters love this song a lot. I sing this to them before they go to bed and the youngest always giggles when i sing the last line.

  • My grandmother sang this song to my father & uncle as a lullaby when they were babies, my father sang it to my sisters & I, & I sing it to my daughter. All this time I had no idea who had written it originally or the inspiration for it. Glad I finally found out! P.S. We sing the third part as "I gave my love a story that had no end." & the answer to it was "The story of I love you, it has no end." No offense to Mr. Cooke, but I like our version better.

  • Damn it, Coop!

  • Sam's voice is simply the most melodic, vocal artwork known to man. I mean there are other legends possessin extremely beautiful vocals like Aretha Franklin (voice once referenced as a "Natural Resource" by a magazine), Jackie Wilson (high, raspy vocal range was simply remarkable), even down to Whitney Houston in her prime, and who can forget about Ray Charles' "I Believe It To My Soul" (in which he sang the 3-part harmony of the Raylettes), but SAM COOKE'S VOCAL COLLAGE WAS/IS UNPARALLELED.

  • I miss him.
