Why must there be a debate about a beautiful song.?The band never mentioned a word about race, beliefs or ploitical views. The civil war is part of our haritage as Americans.

The Emancipation Proclamation freed slaves in the South but not the North. Since the South had already succeeded from the Union, they, naturally, ignored it. Basically it was a useless document.

Also people of the time period were not trying to end slavery because of the mistretment of slaves. But because they didn't like what was happening to slave owners mentally.

didnt put up the Emancipation Proclamation till jan 1 1863 and it didnt end slavery then and the only reason he done it was to inlist 200k black soldiers to help fight the war. its like this if the rebel flag is racist why isnt the american flag we chased thousands of native americans from the east to the west and the went out west and exterminated them while waving the american flag.

I agree this Louis cat needs a history lesson. for example when the irish came over here every man that got off the boat was sent to the front lines and fought for the union. It was all about money and the federal reserve the south controlled a bunch of ports and all the cotton and wanted to print there own money so they broke away all about taxes son the same shit goin on now and the whole reason we come over here and broke away from england shit had nothing to do with slavery plus Lincoln

Just letting you guys know: Lincoln's main reason for fighting in the civil war was not the argument over slavery. Yes he was against it, but his main objective was to unite the country as quickly and as painlessly as possible! He did not recognize the confederacy as a country but as still as part of the union.

The soldiers who fought for the South and North both fought with courage and tenacity seldom seen. As Lincoln said, they both prayed to the same God for victory - and they could not both be right about it. 'Nuff said.
