Footage of when Good old Steam locos even if they were LNER, LMS, GWR, SR or just british railways ran the country. Apart from Dr. Beeching and the new Modern Locomotives that took over in the 1960's. We are fortunate to have the National Railway Museum, all the Preserved Railways, Pete waterman, The trusts that look after individual locomotives and of course the A1 Steam Trust. They have proved that Steam Locomotives can be built here in the 21st century. The footage is not mine and so is the soundtrack.

  • I live here and I hate it too,so does the majority of real brits, how can we be proud of this mess of a country where the gov has sold every single asset it has ever had, including a load it was not even permitted to sell,it would sell the nhs tomorrow if it could to line the pockets of the fat cats and the "politicians",how can a real brit be proud of this dumping ground for every countries unwanted "immigrants" and "Asylum seekers" who have to cross sometimes 12 other countries to get here?

  • People of the times complained about the state of the railways, citing dirty carriages, platforms, etc.

If only they had a vision of the future...

  • I cry when I remember these days. There is much for which we had to be grateful and much for which some must cringe in guilt... cry the beloved country. How I loved it..

  • one of the things that made britian great

  • Never mind all the politics save that for the pub - what about Jubilee 45696 "Arethusa" coasting in @ 2.01 covered in grime & limescale - Luvley Jubbly - brings it all back to me - the 1950's - No TV, No central heating, No computers, No Wii, Queing for buses in smog filled streets, top footballers on £8 / week, .......oooh now I'm getting all morbid.

Still, I did enjoy a spot of trainspotting at the time ( in the evening after detention )

Thanks for posting - very enjoyable

  • @Lytton333 I dont follow.

  • @silver760 I was reading the Economist a while back and it said that on average shop floor wages in China had risen 60% over the last 2 years so maybe we will be exporting Britoshite to China soon!

  • @chanctonbury63 ALL countries want to protect their interests.. whether by trading with each other or not.

  • @aarthurh Funny isnt it? Whilst there might have been one or two exceptions it sounds just like the reason other countries avoided the cars we used to try to make...

  • @silver760 No. All gone because we cant compete. Never again an inward looking protectionist head in the sand country. Weve had enough of that thanks...
