What happens now is between a patient, or in his or her incapacity, the family, and a physician. I've had to make the decision for both of my parents. However the governement wants to get into it. Like Obama said, "Maybe grandma doesn't get the pacemaker. Maybe she should just take the pain pills." (Paraphrased for space from the ABC Obama infomercial.)

You realize that the end of life counseling in this bill, is intended to tell people they are using up resources and should give up and die right?  It is better for all if the resources are given to the young and firm and not the old and infirm.. That is what Socialism is about.

you are aware that end of life counseling already exists right, its what happens when you are terminally ill and consult with your doctor on what you want to do, i.e. keep me alive with extreme measures, donate organs, hospice care etc. Most of my grandparents did this when they got cancer. Its just a worst case scenario consultation and I think most folks overreaction to it is simply a misunderstanding of what it really is.
