its not that hard you have two options to do this. 1st insert in your hdloader disc, let it boot up and select install. take the hdloader disc out and insert in ps2 game. *this option will not work on import games

2nd take hdd out from ps2 and plug in hdd to desktop via ide. be sure to set the ps2 hdd as secondary. run hdl dumb and click install on the software. *works only if you have ps2 images/iso on desktop including import gameshope this helps its been awhile since i've been playing with this.

okay sure what your problem is but did you formatted your hdd using hdloader or hdl dumb?

Do you have a Slim or a FAT?
i have a Slim with USBExtreme on there and it sure does suck
