When you're trying to teach guitar you should at least call things by their proper name. That's all i'm saying.

Ok, if you know anything about music theory you know that the correct way to call it is a G#. The key of E has no flats in it, therefore the note Ab doesn't exist in the key of E (unless you want to write it as an augmented second which is dumb).
Even though they are technically the same note on a keyboard or fretboard it needs to be called a G# to be theoretically correct.
