Kokanee*** Trout*** Smallmouth*
Snow was the story over the weekend, but prior to the white stuff covering the launches, Dick Nichols of Dick's Fishing Charters reported hot kokanee action with multiple limits possible for fish in the 13-inch range. He has been scoring quick limits using downriggers at 25 feet armed with a Captain Jack's Super Hootchie tipped with corn behind the new Captain Jack Dodger while using Dick's Trout Busters behind a weighted Mountain flasher on his side poles at 17 feet in depth with a tip of crawler on the back hook and corn on the front hook. Captain Jack Yandell and Hal Hilgemann of Fresno boated multiple limits in the Black Rock area using the same techniques as Nichols. He touted Black Rock, Eagle Point and near the Stevenson Cove area as the top areas with Road Nos. 1 and 2 and near the dam being best for trout. Kevin Kato of the Shaver Lake Deli continues to land easy limits of trout from the banks near the Shaver Lake Marina with Kastmasters or Panther Martin spinners. Southern California Edison Co. planted 350 rainbows averaging 4 pounds this week. No report on small mouth bass activity. The lake is at 75% capacity with a surface water temperature of 54 degrees. Huntington was just starting to get ready for access prior to the weekend's snow storms. Huntington is rising to 57%.

Chuck Crane of the Wishon Village RV Park said the lake experienced from 6 to 8 inches of snow Sunday, and the inlet creeks are moving fast into the lake. The launch is on the concrete ramp, and large boats are able to be put in the water. Trolling remains best on the far side of the lake around the mouth of Woodchuck Creek with blade/crawler combinations or various patterns of Rapalas at two to three colors of lead core. Shore fishing is best near the creek inlets at Woodchuck or Short Hair with salmon eggs or night crawlers. The campgrounds are still a few weeks away with the heavy snow cover. Crane said there is at least 10 feet of snow in the parking lot at Courtright, and it should be a long time before access to the lake is available. The creeks are all running high and fast, but several creeks have been stocked with catchable trout.

Merritt Gilbert said anglers have been taking advantage of the trout plant into Redinger Lake, and most are removing the tags from the fish and releasing them back into the lake. Once 400 of the tags are returned, the lake will be replanted due to the efforts of local resident Fred Mahoney. Redinger has the coolest surface temperature of any low-elevation lake with temperatures rarely above 65 degrees. Gilbert said the boat launch is decent, and this is a good area option. A trout plant was made at Mammoth Pool. Edison is at 35%, Florence at 59%, Mammoth Pool at 100% and Redinger at 94%. Access to the Kaiser Pass lakes is still several weeks off with the exception of quad vehicles.
Looks good to me .
