Theatrical trailer for the 1948 SUPERMAN serial starring Kirk Alyn, Noel Neill and Tommy Bond. Alyn would again don the the cape and tights of the "Man of Steel" in the sequel, ATOM MAN VS. SUPERMAN (1950), reported be the most finacially successful serial of all-time. In addition to three other non-comic book hero cliffhangers, 1953, he would play BLACKHAWK in the 1952 chapterplay and was announced by Republic Pictures to star as COMMANDO CODY, a role which eventually went to Judd Holdren. He is aptly remembered as "The Last of the Serial Kings."

  • Funny. They cast the 40 year old Tommy Bond in the part of young kid Jimmy Olsen.

  • Bond was born on September 16, 1926, making him 21 -- a reasonable age for a young reporter -- when the serial was released on January 5, 1948 (IMDB lists the release as July 15, 1948). Jackie Kelk's "Jimmy Olsen" in the radio was portrayed more like an adolescent than any of the screen versions, as well as Jack Larson's TV interpretation of the character.

  • That animation of superman flying into the building really caught me off guard, as it kicked ass. I can imagine how people must have reacted in 1948 to the kind of special effect, especially if it still looks that cool here in 2010.

  • @JohnnyGNV I diagree I just seen this for the first time and im 53......movie goer's back then would have loved it!!!im going to find out as much as i can about Kirk alyn!!

  • I would love to find this serial, as well, the serial Superman vs Atom Man. Plus, I love Noel Neill, as Lois Lane.

  • @JohnnyGNV Reeves [ real name besselo took his step fathers name as a stage name] was hurt when the wire he was hanging from broke your right he was a really sympathetic actor who could generate an aura of sincerity when they made the superman movie with christopher reeve they gave noel neil and kirk allyn small partsfirst it was supposed to be noel neil then kirk allyns manager griped about it

  • Damn he flies better than he does NOW !

  • In case none of you knew this, Mr. Alyn NEVER used trampolines or catapults or like devices in the Superman Serials......He didn't NEED to!

  • Not to diminish the efforts of Kirk Alyn, but he lacked the depth of GEORGE REEVES. As far as the flying sequences went, they really could have done better than to just have a cartoon Superman flying. I was always surprised that fans settled for an animated drawing, there are other ways they could have done flying effects, even back then.

  • :09 Tip toe, through the tulips, with meeeeeeee...!

  • @captbijou noell neil did many westerns and was the secound lois on tv after phillis coates left to have her own series that didnt happen i wonder what that was investigative reporter for a great metropolitan womans liberation magazine when george reeves died they wanted jack larson to do a jimmy olson series he said forget when george died it ended and he went running down the street they thought he was going to commit suicide so they chased after him

  • He run like nacho libre.lol ;-)

  • @in2food Hey. 2day age 40 is considered the new age of 30 and 25. so more power to this actor of Tommy Bond.
