I captured the footage on the way to work using a camera mounted securely to my dashboard leaving my hands free to drive. The topic got me thinking about the call from many parents and residents to have cameras posted outside of schools. Its better, surely, to have drivers concentrating on the road rather than the speedo. What do you think? Are speed cameras always the best answer to road safety?

  • @MldnightCIub You could of course fit a speedo to your bicycle & then you'd have a ready answer.

  • Swindon only opted out due to the hypothecation/netting off changes of 2007 - in other words, they can't 'make' any profit now. T

he way in which they so theatrically left the scheme, was a ploy to make it appear as if it was being done for the public good, when in fact it was all about the money they were losing, not the money being 'taken' from motorists. They thus left smelling of roses following a PR campaign designed to make it look as if they were 'vigilantes'.

  • if this happens and in your in a car rejoice!! the other drive has failed in his duty of care to other road users and caused an accident which he should be held responsible for.... get a sick note for back/neck pain...Contact deed poll change your name to ibrahim khafoor mohammed. tell the insurance company your whole family was in car.. may injuries!! everyone claims !! great Success!

  • shud i stop blinking my eye's aswell? on average iff i drive one hour i would have driven blind for 1min due to blinking with my eye's!!!!

  • @lollygaggle yeah ok

  • @jcoldham1 If you mean speed enforcement, it has been running at a gradual loss since Feb 2007 when the netting-off changes meant all the money goes to the government & only running costs are returned. This removed all incentive to maximise detections, so running costs outweighed income.

It does not make money out of drivers, which is why the number of static cameras has been dramatically reduced.

  • this is a nice way of making money out of drivers

  • @TeamYankee2 You don't consider that would be distracting?

  • @Overst33r Obviously if someone runs into the road a few meters infront of you, you have more chance of slowing down to a stop, or a non lethal speed, if you're going at 30 rather than 100...

  • How about all new cars have a heads up display to show the speed infront of your face.. no excuses then ?
