@omgwthzomglawl You are correct. I can admit a good performance in films I don't necessarily like. But Penn here just squeaks & tightens his buttocks. I never got the impressino that I was watching Sean Penn pretend to be gay. Whereas with Rourke, I almost forgot it was an acting performance. He made me forget I was watching a movie. But rather I was convinced it was a documentary. That's the difference between the two performances. The Academy will go with the gay one though, every time.
