Trying to go beyond the notion of markets, or governments is exactly what is needed. Thanks for this relevant update.

"Globalization", by George Soros underlines that "no society can exist without morality..., so we have global markets, but we do not have a global society. We can not build a global society without taking into account moral consideration". Interesting approach..., and below mentioned comments.

The cause of the economic malaise in the world is political, it is not caused by the simplifying assumptions economic academia use. My experience with economic theory is that the litterature uses up as much space on explaining the hypothetical nature of the assumptions as explaining the theories themself

You are absolutely right. History I think shows when europe stops trading they start fighting. Politicians begin to look for ways to distract a dissatisfied populace and before too long they arrive at the idea that injecting capital into defense industries both revives the economy and keeps angry workers fed and manageable.

I was absolutely stunned by speech delivered by Mr. Mehrling. This is exactly what today's politician should say. But they lost their credibility, and even if they used this, I would not trust them. Reason: They have let us down, it's time for change. People who let into this, can lead us out.... their views are slave of system that failed... and they want to preserve it. It's time to shift paradigms.

It seems that Mr. Soros' main objective is to maintain the European Union at all costs, and his version of economics is anything that supports that. Nothing about serving the economic interests of nations, communities, or people. That would probably be way too hands-on. "Gotta watch the ones who always keep their hands clean...."

    Economics always has to adapt

he gives a logical and clear explanations of booms and busts, and what the modern theory is, and why it doesn't actually work well. This helps a lot to explain things. Taken with what the other speakers say, a lot of things are making sense that before were incomprehensible. It is clear we need to closely look at our economic models and think seriously about alternative ways of considering policies.

I do not understand the negative and rather ignorant comments on this speech which say nothing about what he says, or the issues involved but can only comment on his appearance or call names. This is a sign of stupidity. If you disagree with him - try to say something coherent with at least a facsimile of logic. If that is beyond you, then you would do the world a favour to shut up.
