Why do people thumbs down it just because sum1 asks a question? But from what I understand it "grinds the rails" so that it smooths it out to try to avoid derailments to an extend and also to remove ny excess gunk and grease as well, which would be burned away. But im nothing near an expert so don't quote me on it.

it'd be funny if they didn't spray water on the crossing the car's tires would have been messed up for sure

Actually...someone walked across the tracks at another crossing not sprayed as well as this one and there shoes...well haha...probably had to buy a new pair!

Hmm didn't my reply post? Anyway, railgrinding restores life of rails by smoothening the ends which railcar wheels pass over. It is a lot cheaper than replacing the rails.
