J-Shelf is back and this week's goodie is Phantasy Star Online version 2 for the Sega Dreamcast. This video is more of a retrospective of the entire series, as I just wanted to talk about the great RPG series that originated on the Sega Master System so many years ago. It's crazy to think that now gamers can play Phantasy Star titles on the Nintendo DS and Sony PSP. What do you viewers think of Phantasy Star/PSO? Did you play Phantasy Star Universe? Did you play the original Genesis games? Anybody take PSO online when the official servers were still up?

I just love coming back from work and playing this game for a bit as I relax before dinner. The graphics and soundtrack are stunningly amazing, and despite the repetative nature of the game, it still is quite fun. Ok, well another good coming next week (hopefully)...see you next time!

  • This game is awesome.

The title screen music is my all time favorite :)

Do you also have Jet Set Radio?

  • oh of course i have jet set radio...though it is back home in the states lol. great game!

  • I love PSO! I have every version of the game. I never played online but played offline with my friends every weekend. I also have the sound tracks for PSO and PSO ep I&II. By far my most favorite game OST.<3

  • nice! the soundtrack is amazing I agree!

  • ahh... I remember the days me and my friend would play through the night and level up. my first online game too. Used to love this game back in the day.

  • so nice to read everyone posting fond memories of this game and the series! Replaying the Dreamcast original reminds me how it took much longer to level up in that one than the Gamecube update. Also, I miss having those extra maps from that one. The jungle was amazing!

  • i hear that phantasy star one was the first RPG to hit north america, people may debate that though, the forth phantasy star retailed for $100 but was originally meant to be a CD rom game, it was a great game, but it felt like the cartridge was a last second decision after finishing the game 2 times

  • you remind me of a friend lol
