Here's lesson 2 of 'Anji'. Sorry about the negative reference to electric guitarists, but let's face it - take away their volume and distortion and they're lost - Just kidding.

  • I always knew there was something about electric guitar players that didn't seem quite right... I just couldn't seem to put my "little" finger on it but after your insightful explanation (girlie strings, spandex and big hair) I've got it right under my "dead" thumb.

Wonderful lessons by the way... if you were living anywhere near me I'd be looking you up for lessons.

    Thanks for this wonderful stuff...

  • @MrMarcus7447 Thanks for the great compliment. I get a bit cheeky about 'some' electric guitar players. I'm sure the spandex and big hair must serve a purpose - wouldn't look good on me though.

    Cheers,

    Gary

  • I think your style is very comprehensive and I enjoy being able to accomplish playing something with your help, it (you) make sense to me.

I noticed especially in this video that the souns level is quite low. It would be great if you had a boom mic for your voice and then another for your acoustic if it has no electrics.

Thanks so much for the lessons!

  • @pariss125 Thanks for the nice comments. I've improved the volume on my more recent uploads - but you are absolutely right about these earlier ones. I should re-do them.

    Cheers,

    Gary

  • when i start the dead thumb, do the other notes come in alternately after every bass note or at the same time? i couldn't figure it out.

  • @ptanenbaum It varies, depending on where melody notes fall. It's important to get that 'dead thumb' working solidly first, and then add in the melody notes. Try doing a very short phrase at a time. Best of luck and let me know how you go.

  • @weirdscene2 Thank you. I'm always glad to hear that people are getting something from my lessons. Let me know when you've got the whole tune down. I agree with you about TABS. I find them difficult to follow as well. They don't give you a sense of the feel of the notes.

    Cheers,

    Gary

  • Hei Gary! I think you're an amazing guitarist. If your lessons for anji didn't exist I think I'd never to try to play this song. I am very bad at reading tabs and they make me confused but I think I'll learn Anji with your help quite soon! Stay the great cowboy rocker :)

  • thank you sir...kinda helpd....

  • If you've been playing with an alternating thumb [as in my earlier lessons] then dead thumb can throw you for a while. I'd advise practicing just as you did with the earlier lessons. Just play the dead thumb only to a steady rhythm without any fingers, whilst watching TV or listening to a CD [just mute the strings with your left hand]. Then add the fingers as a cluster [all three together, in between thumb strokes] then you should be able to separate the finger strokes.

    Cheers,

    Gary
