  • Nothing against Paul Gayten, but this song sure sounds like a Bobby Charles composition to me -- it's got that wistful feeling to it that's so typical of a Bobby Charles song.

  • @GoodNoteDJ Charles and Gayten parting was ugly as was his parting with Chess Records. Gayten added little if anything when his name was used in conjunction with Bobby's compositions. Since this recording makes no reference to Bobby as a "composer", I think Gayten may just have copied his style.

  • the song is tailored for Fats - the saxophones are Little Richard's

  • @pinchold Cannot find any reference of Little Richard's involvement with the song. However, Lee Allen led the "Upsetters". (BTW Allen also was a member of Paul Gayten's orch. They were the session band Little Richard used when he recorded over at Cosimo's studios

  • not the cardinals, I think. It's Lee Allen on the sax solo.

  • @fatheadthedog It is Lee Allen with the Paul Gayten Band. This was actually the B-Side of "Take it Easy Greasy". As for it being written by Paul Gayten, who knows? Somehow after Bobby left Chess Records, Gayten got his name added to "See You Later Alligator". You know what that meant. Needless to say, as often as you may see Gayten's name with Charles, there was no love.

  • Simply superb!

  • The song was written by Paul Gayton who had close ties with Dave Bartholowmew but I don't think it's Dave's band. At Bobby's insistence, it probably was the Cardinals, a band formed in south Lousiana that included sax men Raoul Prado, Carlo Marino, and Harry Simoneaux, drummer Kenneth Theriot and pianist Ed Leblanc. BTW, he got on Chess Records because they thought he was black. Paul Gayton who was Creole and was an A&R man in New Orleans for Leonard Chess never mentioned that Bobby was white.

  • thank you BOBBY! God bless you!!

now , He playes R&R in heaven.

  • Thanks....we're all gonna miss him. Take care.
