Introduction to Gumbo (Flex 4) Part 1

This is an introduction to using Gumbo Part 1. And shows how to get it running in Flex.

The Big Deal!!!

So what's the big deal? Why should you even care about Gumbo? Besides the performance enhancement and ease of use, Flex's components are now native 3D - no more bitmapdata hacks to get them into Papervision - and if you are interested in building a Flash version of Second Life you just got a major boost. Second Life doesn't handle data well - Flex 4 is a 3D data animal.

Hi Mike, thanks for yet another interesting tutorial. I tried to follow your instructions. But I FB fails everytime I run the applications, and when in debugging mode it gives me this error:

Process terminated without establishing connection to debugger.

Command:

"C:\Program Files\Adobe\Flex Builder 3 Plug-in\sdks\4.0.0.4021\bin\ad­l.exe" C:\Users\....

Output from command:

invocation forwarded to primary instance

Do you have any idea of what is causing this?

Make sure you are using flash player 10 not 9 - sorry about your problem - did you try to run my download?

I don't know the answer to that question - my gut feeling is no - but who knows. I use Papervision to bring blender content into Flex.

Why I can't see the projects on Design mode ?

thnks for the info. I'm already make stuff like that and i have some problems with the x,y,z axis...good sdk to work with and...mmm, one question, if you or maybe some of the readers know some kind to read pdf or dvi with coverflow like scribd please, tell me how because is the worst of my problems..thnks anyway :)

Thanks for your reply Mike. After a restart it works okay. Although I'm still getting use to all these FxComponents etc... Hopefully they will find a way to integrate Gumbo more seamlessly into Flex.

I was able to figure out the error, apparently an instance of the bugging session was already running, and simply exiting Flex Builder doesn't kill said session, it took a reboot. Thanks anyways.

I noticed Blender sitting on your desktop! I love Blender. Do you know if Adobe's Alchemy project could be used to put Blender 3D content into Flash/Flex?
