This video is about the topic of 'social entrepreneurs', who they are, how you can become one and what difference they make to society.
Applicants can apply for an award at http://www.unltd.org.uk/guinness-bring-it-to-life-awards/ from 27 May and the deadline for entries is 23 July.
A social entrepreneur is someone who recognises a social problem and uses entrepreneurial principles to organise, create, and manage a venture to make social change.
Whilst social entrepreneurs are most commonly associated with the voluntary and not-for-profit sectors, this need not necessarily be incompatible with making a profit.
The video talks about 'The Guinness Bring It To Life Awards', which offer 6 Development Awards, worth up to £15,000 and 13 Catalyst awards worth up to £2,200 to social entrepreneurs who want to develop a business idea that makes a positive difference on their local community. The awards have just been launched and the closing date for entries is the 23rd of July.
The video is particularly pertinent as David Cameron has recently said that a 'big society' of community work and social enterprise could be one of their great legacies - giving power back to the local communities.
Such a brilliant social business! We featured Bikeworks in a blog post a few weeks ago, which you can read on our site. They're also a member business on our website which acts as a meeting point for social businesses and entrepreneurs, and investors looking to provide capital for good causes.
