Newcastle Duststorm - 23 September 2009

I woke up this morning at around 5:30am, and the sun was just coming up. As it got light, I noticed everything outside was covered in a thick bright yellow fog. I've never experienced anything like this before. It's very surreal, and at 8:40am, as I'm writing this, it's still bright yellow outside.

Apparently strong winds have blown dust in from the dry west of the state, so we're watching their topsoil blowing over us and into the Pacific Ocean.

Anyway, here's some video I shot and edited together very quickly to post on YouTube.

My thanks go out to my dear friend Tim Hayman for giving me the inspiration to post this video. He truly is a god amongst men, who strides tall over oaks, speaks with the wisdom of the ancients and heals the sick with the wave of his hand. He's also out of work at the moment, so if anyone knows someone who needs a truck driver in North Wales...

I'm in Moorooka 7 kms SW of Brisbane CBD, it's been red here for about an hour and the dust just arrived - you can taste it.

Yeah, and smell it. 

I've noticed there's a thin layer of dust on everything in the house. I'm freakin' out and vacuuming my electronic stuff!

today was June 27th in Lakewood Ohio USA and no dust storm at all was here but we had a completely yellow outside it was so yellow it was coming into the windows almost like a glow then it was very orange almost like dark urine. Not a joke. This happened about a year ago as well but no where close to the deep color at all. When you tried to take a picture all that came up was blue. Does anyone have any idea. The news already said it was very odd and it was no dust or sand of any kind. Chemical?
