This song is from the film Phir Subah Hogi(1958),which was based on Fyodor Dostoevsky's novel Crime and Punishment.
This song is based on Sahir's poem 'Ummed'.Though wrote Half a century ago these lines are valid even today.

Umeed
-----

Woh subah kabhi to aayegi

in kali sadiyon ke sar se jab raat ka aanchal dhalkega
jab dukh ke badal pighalenge jab sukh ka saagar jhalkega
jab ambar jhoom ke nachega jab dharati naghme gayegi

Woh subha kabhi to aayegi...

jis subah ki khatir jug jug se hum sab mar mar kar jeete hain
jis subah ke amrit ki dhun mein hum zahar ke pyale petein hain
in bhuki pyaasi ruho par ik din to karam farmayegi

Woh subah kabhi to aayegi...

mana ke abhi tere mere armano ki keemat kuch bhi nahi
mitti ka bhi hai kuch mol magar insanon ki keemat kuch bhi nahi
insano ki izzat jab jhute sikkon mein na toli jaayegi

Woh subah kabhi to aayegi...

daulat ke liye jab aurat ki ismat ko na becha jayega
chahat ko na kuchla jayega, izzat ko na becha jayega
apney kali kartuton par jab ye duniya sharmaayegi

Woh subah kabhi to aayegi...

beeten-gey kabhi to din aakhir ye bhuk ke aur bekari ke
tooten-gey kabhi to but aakhir daulat ki ijarahdari ke
jab ek anokhi duniya ki buniyad uthayi jayegi

Woh subah kabhi to aayegi...

majboor burhapa jab sooni raahon ki dhool na phankega
maasoom larakpan jab gandi galiyon mein bhuk na mangega
haque mangne walon ko jis din suli na dikhaye jayegi

Woh subah kabhi to aayegi...

faqon ki chitaon par jis din insan na jalayen jayenge
seney ke dahakatey dozakh mein armaan na jalaye jayenge
ye narak sey bhi gandi duniya, jab swarg banaye jayegi

Woh subah kabhi to aayegi...

  • The Sahir, Mukesh, Khayyam team created a masterpiece with an eloquent message for those who have eyes but can not see, or if they see , don't care. The inequities of "progress" and "development" -- of the vaunted " India shining" claims-- stare us in the face decades after this song was composed. No one can gloat over this in India's neighborhood either, for things are even worse there. Your montage of images is superb in its compelling reflection of the lyrics. Thanks,srcr148.

  • with full respect to sahir, mukesh and asha,i give 100/ 100 to khayyam, without whose vision in addition to sahir's, this song could not have been so beautiful. Remember he was first rejected by tha films distributors, but then Ramesh Saigal took them to live recrding of this song and they readily agreed. the violines in harmony and double base for rhythem are just wonderful.

  • A great artistic work.Display of pictures matching with the thoughts expressed in the immortal song by Sahir is touching. This collection truly reflects the plight as well as dreams of millions.

  • The best song from this film.

  • Such immortal lines, such immortal voice, such heavenly composition....sheer brilliance!

  • Only Mukesh can sing this song, Sahir can write

  • Sahir gave words to disfranchise people's cry.

Still in hope we bear all "sitam".

    Sahir O Sahir !!!!

  • Thank you for making this beautiful video
