The City of Chicago Department of Revenue has a fleet of camera-equipped enforcement vans. The cameras use license plate recognition technology to determine if vehicles are boot-eligible. The cameras have the ability to read both sides of the street simultaneously. This feature allows the boot crews to drive down a typical street just once instead of twice. They can also identify cars that have been reported stolen or involved in Amber Alerts or child abductions.
