This "macro lens" cost me a dollar, I just attached the glass from a dollar store magnifying glass to the inside of an empty duct tape roll. This conveniently fit into the kit lens hood (attaches and detaches quickly and easily!).
Ok, so it's not really macro and the image gets distorted, but I can get a LOT closer to subjects then I could
with the GH1 kit lens, it gives an incredibly tight depth of field, it took five minutes to put together, and it cost a dollar!
A big downside (other then what was already mentioned) is that the OIS is rendered almost useless, making the GH1 being even harder to handle with hands.
I'd love to get an actual macro lens and use it in much more traditional ways, but I used a broken magnifying glass to get a lot closer to some subjects then the GH1 stock lens would generally allow. Another cool thing with this little rig is the really tight DOF. No color correction.
