These are prototypes produced using Haiku, but are not currently part of Haiku!
By Ahmed Al Hassani and Mohannad Hammadeh. Ahmed and Mohannad extended the Haiku app server with functionality for tiling and stacking of windows. That is, windows can be arranged in a non-overlapping manner by snapping them to other windows, or stacked similar to tabbing in a web browser.
The two have not only implemented the new features but have also evaluated them using eye tracking equipment, showing that with a high probability stack & tile is more efficient in certain situations.

  • I love the windows merging and tabbing, it looks like a really good improvement! Is this going to be in Haiku mainline?

  • I miss this feature in Haiku alpha 2 :'(

  • pretty cool! a sugestion add a doc or taskbar next version

  • This would become incredibly confusing.

  • @EmilAhlback

Sometimes I Mis-Spell Haiku, its just one of those words that can be spelled different ways, because of its pronunciation.

If you speak a different language, maybe its easier to remember.

  • @CrewRite "Haiku" is hard to remember? It's one, simple word.

  • It is but don't know if it is in the main trunk. Christpher Lutterman, Luttherforth?

  • You know in XP you can tile windows? Ctrl-click as many windows as you like in the task-bar and you can neatly arrange them horizontally or vertically side by side.

  • Is the code for that solution available somewhere? It looks lovely, since I started playing with Haiku, I felt the tab-like captions were lacking something, and when I encountered this video, I knew that was it! I'd love to be able to use it, and maybe tweak a bit more...

  • I think Haiku and React have potential.

The name Haiku could change to a name that's more simple to remember.

    BeOs was easy to remember.

Just wish they would get out of Alpha.

Their definitely better than any Linux or Unix, I've seen.

  • Why use the taskbar to switch between the two windows when using Microsoft Windows? Why not use Alt + Tab to switch between the windows thus avoiding the need to remove one hand away from the keyboard and on to the mouse. The Alt + Tab sequence has been in MS Windows for ages. And don't forget about it's counterpart Alt + Shift + Tab. The overuse of the mouse is a real disappointment nowadays when dealing with GUIs. The keyboard interface is even neglected in various software. What a shame.
