Bob and I went on our weekly hikes and this time we visited Spider Lake and Lower Skokomish River and found roads washed out and trail damage. At Spider Lake we found snow on the ground which Bob said is a first for him in 30 years of coming to Spider Lake in May.

  • Why is it called spider lake? My friend from the area was telling me about it, I asked and she has no idea. I haven't been able to find online why it got the name. Have you ever heard?

  • @ctynan18 I'm not sure. I asked Bob who swims there all the time (since a kid - he's 64 now) and he says he doesn't know. I do know that there are lots of spiders in the lake during the warm months.

  • @ctynan18 It is called that because there are lots of stumps in the lake, looking down on the stumps from above they look like spiders.

  • i love spider lake..the hike down that hill from the road is a bitch though...

  • Looks are decieving. The lake is over run with newts. A few small fish live there. But the power bait fishers have taken all the decent fish.

  • looks like a good place to fish. :)
