stirling alloa railway floating railway tracks.
Hi,
I live in Craiglea, Causewayhead, Stirling and my property backs onto the railway. I have been in communication with all parties involved with the railway at various times during build and since rail traffic commenced.
My recent correspondence was late December to Network Rail where I highlighted a problem with a section break in the rail behind my house in that I feel it is responsible for the excessive noise and vibration that we feel in Craiglea. In January, an Engineer form Network rail visited my house and inspected the joint in question. He was sympathetic but stated that nothing could be done because there appeared to be nothing wrong and it could not be moved.
Since then, the noise and vibration has worsened which resulted in my videoing the area of track. Being a retired aircraft engineer, it is my opinion that the track requires extensive maintenance as it is no longer fully supported by the ballast. (Network rails' own web site states that this is a prime requirement). And this would cause the increased noise and vibration. see http://www.networkrail.co.uk/aspx/1030.aspx
I was unable to bring my observations to the attention of the meeting on Monday but I did go and speak to Mr. David Boyce (the other Network rail representative sat off to the left hand side). He listened to what I had to say and viewed the videos. These have now been forwarded to him along with a covering letter. He has contacted me and I am awaiting a further visit from a senior engineer. He is also talking to his own senior engineers at Glasgow.
Having found out about your web site I thought it would benefit all interested parties to see what state the track is currently in.
Regards
Brian Cordell

I have seen this many times before specifically i remember seeing it all the time at one of the Black mountain level crossings on the Norfolk Southern Rail line from Asheville to Marion and points east. I wondered if it was a good thing or not at the time.

Fascinating. I wonder how much of this the track and ballast can take before it needs attention. Maybe someone with technical expertise will tell us this is supposed to happen with these steele sleepers and heavy ballast?

This seems to me like the whole line needs packing.
