Tom Cruise battles it out with Matt Lauer, who is just being glib, whilst demonstrating his considerable "knowledge" of psychiatry.

To think this guy is one of the highest paid actors in Hollywood is mind boggling..

He's one of the highest paid actors in Hollywood because he's a gifted actor not because he holds certain beliefs

....There are of course some problems and over diagnosis is something most people agree on,but that doesn't mean all psychiatric medicine should be abolished.Furthermore,in an ideal world everybody would have time for exercise and vitamins and there wouldn't be the external stress and difficulties which cause people to suffer depression.Afterall, not everybody has Toms wealth or lifestyle.

There is some truth to what Tom says.Psychiatry does have a dark past,as does general medicine.Science has also not been able to understand exactly why serotonin treatments work, though various theories exist. It is also true that an ideal world would mean people didn't need to take antidepressants.

However, psychology now promotes CBT before taking drugs, unless in a very serious state. Those who do need drugs because of a serious state or CBT has failed generally get great benefit from them...cont

That's exactly right, and yet you get a bunch of vitriolic know-it-alls commenting and attacking Cruise for telling this simple truth. I can only hope it's mob psychology and bullying mentality at work here against cruise, and that people aren't really that closed minded and gullible.

The human brain is way too complex for them(the drug pushers) to really know what's going on inside a persons head when they shove these expensive $ making pills down their throats.

Tor Cruise was already one of my favorite celebrities but seeing this has taken my respect for him to the next level. Hats off to you Mr Cruise, you are obviously very knowledgeable and well researched about this important topic(which even the host had to begrudgingly give to you). And what's with that host, what a dooshbag using his platform on his silly show to promote drugs for big pharma. Shame on you!!

The fact that he's an idiot has nothing to do with him being an actor. I mean, I honestly think the guy is great at what he does on the screen. That being said, whenever he appears as himself, it can generally be counted on to be absolutely ridiculous.
