When you shoot time-lapse images, one powerful way is to shoot still frames with your DSLR. This was captured using a Nikon D90 plus a Phottix Nikos external intervalometer at 5 second intervals.

Some Nikon cameras even have built-in intervalometers that make time-lapse shooting easy. D300s, for instance.

Shooting Medium frames often gives you final results that are WAY larger than HD movie frames, so you have some added flexibility in the final result.

Here a Ken Burns-like move has been applied to a large scale time-lapse movie to produce a more interesting final result.

It's one of the example HD movies found in the "HDSLR the billion things you need..." interactive eBook for photographers making the transition from still photography to cinematography.

You can find more about the eBook by poking around at digitalsecrets.net or hdslrreview.com.
