ENJOY

Chapter 1
I was the last person to leave the plane, the last person to reach baggage claim and the last person to actually receive my luggage. I took a deep breath before walking through the doors with the big "Arrivals" sign above it. I wasn't quite sure what to expect. All I really knew about my Godfather was that he played in a band, Switchfoot I think, and that he and my parents had been best friends when I was born.

I recognized him from the picture my mom had given me. I stopped in front of him. "You Jon?" I asked. "Yes I am! Welcome to San Diego!" he answered smilingly. "Thanks" I mumbled. "I haven't seen you since you were a baby!" he said cheerfully. "Well yeah here I am," I said as I lifted my arms and pointed at myself. "Let me get that for you," he said grabbing my bag. "So how was the flight?" he asked trying to start a conversation. "Long" I replied coldly. I had no intention of making this easy for him. I had my own agenda. But unfortunately for me he seemed unaffected by my coolness. "Yeah I know. 9 hours in a plane is never fun," he continued as he started walking towards the exit. I rolled my eyes behind his back and slowly followed him.

We reached a big black SUV with a driver. "This is James," he said as he threw my bag in the trunk "He's my chauffeur". Of course he has a driver... I gave James a nod and got in the car. I gave Jon the same silence treatment my mom had gotten when driving me to the airport, but that didn't stop Jon from talking to me. He kept telling me stories about everything we drove past not really noticing that I wasn't paying him any attention.

"Here we are!" Jon said happily as we pulled up to an enormous house. "This is your house?" I asked trying to hide the surprise in my voice. "Yes it is and now it's yours too!" he replied. He got out and I followed him to the front door.

I think that my mom's entire house could have fit into his hall. "Wow" I mumbled. "Let me show you your room!" He led me up the stairs and down a long hallway till he finally reached the room that now was mine. "I know it's probably not like you want it but just tell me what you want done and Ill help you okay?" he said. "I'll let you get settled in. Dinner's at seven!"

He closed the door behind him. I sighed and threw my bag on the bed. I started walking around examining the room. The walls were painted a light yellow, which matched the white desk, white bed and white bookshelf perfectly. The bookshelf almost took up an entire wall and was completely filled. I gave it a quick look and saw titles like "The Alchemist", "The complete works of William Shakespeare", "The Great Gatsby" - books I had heard of but never had read and never would read. The whole room was far from my style but it would do for now.

I emptied my bag on the floor. There it was - my entire life. It only took up half a square meter. It was mostly clothes but among it were some books and pictures. I grabbed the pictures and books and hid them under the bed. I snatched my clothes of the floor and started looking for the closet - I found it next to the bathroom door. It was a walk-in and it was the size of my old room in Denmark. My clothes would take up less than a tenth of the space.

I went back to the bed and lay down. I checked my phone for any new messages - nothing. My so-called friends had probably already forgotten all about me and moved on to the next house they could trash. I closed my eyes and drifted off.

At seven I ventured downstairs. I heard Jon's voice and followed the sound to the kitchen. He was on the phone but hung up as I entered. Hungry? he asked. I shrugged. "Sit" he said as he pointed to a chair. I wasn't really used to eating dinner at a table or with other people for that matter. "I hope you're hungry. I made plenty!" he said cheerfully. I gave him a quick look and shook my head. He kept asking me questions to which I simply replied yes or no.

When we finished I helped him wash up. "So tomorrow I was thinking we could go down to the school and talk to the principal and enroll you. How does that sound?" he asked while drying a plate. "Super" I answered sarcastically. When we were down I quickly left and went to my room. I pulled out my phone one missed call and one new voice message - both from my mom. I quickly deleted it.

I sat on the windowsill and leaned my head up against the cold glass. I felt like I should be crying but I couldnt - I wasn't sad, I wasnt mad, I wasnt happy - I simply didnt feel anything.
