  • @didly Yeah, it's the same with me, except I really am ignorant though about what pads are exactly good. At home, I personally use one of those mat things which at least you can hold the freeze arrows, but it has a way of slipping off your feat, especially when attempting songs like paranoia survivor. And the sad thing is that mat I use is better than about 90% of the pads in all the arcade rooms I've been to.

  • @cooltrainerag My favorite machine was supreme until they fired the game room tech, now the select buttons stick, you cant hold the freeze arrows at times, and too many people have dropped soda on the pad and no one will clean it up. It was the first machine that I owed everything too and now its gone. I hate myself at times when I go by that machine and I know it will never be what it was but I still try to play it....

  • @fattysmash77 Your right, that's why TKL is not busting his ass to hit those arrows! He knows how to control himself on that pad very well. His style is perfect for that machine. Now he can go play the exact same way on a crap machine all day if he wanted to, and get lower scores because that machine may require him to "iron foot" those arrows. That light stepping style WONT work on every pad bro. At times its a must to put your weight on the arrows for it to register, and that will cost energy.

  • @didly All I have to say is this. I have played on a mainly crappy pad since I started playing roughly 6 years ago. I recently relocated to a way better pad and the only thing that has gone up is my perfect counts. Not my combos, not my balance or stamina, just my perfect counts. It is the player who controls his or her own balance and stamina, not the machine.

  • @didly Yeah, that's pretty awesome how he can do that. It looks like he's not even moving his feet at all, but yet he does it ever so slightly to hit everything with minimal energy. With me, I don't need a bar, but that's because I've played that way from the start, and I feel funny with a bar. It pisses me off when the ddr machines are crap, because sometimes you can't get freeze arrows even if you're stomping on those arrows like crazy, and I've failed songs cuz of that.

  • @fattysmash77 And the guy in the vid is at ease, pad so nice he doesn't need to pick up his feet. The girl next to him is not doing so hot and she needs the bar. she is not as efficient as he. (assuming the machine is equal in quality on both pads) If he's been playing on those pads long enough he learned how to play like that. If he's been playing like that since the beginning of his ddr career hes a genius. Somewhere down the line he changed up his style, crap pads wont get you that good.

  • @fattysmash77 that's cool you've been playing for 6 years, Ive been playing since 99. I see that we disagree with each other and that's fine, I just know what Ive seen in myself and in other competitive players throughout my years. (including tourny play as well) Do you not have any balance issues? I know I do. I cant pass psmo like the guy in the vid.(without the bar) now with the bar maybe, im not efficient enough to do so without and i do know balance is involved in the equation.

  • @didly Yes I can say it's not true, because it's not. Your balance is not going to improve simply because a machine's pads are more sensitive to steps. All that will change is how hard you have to step. If you're playing on a machine that you have to stomp on, just find a new machine. Oh, and I've been playing for roughly 6 years or so...and as for PSMO, the only real improvement I've had on the song is that there are less pad misses and therefore more passes on the song (all A's by the way).

  • @fattysmash77 You cant say that's not true at all, maybe for you but not for everyone. If you can play 9 footers and up all night on a machine that you HAVE to stomp on because the place you play at doesn't give a damn about the machine and then you switch to 1 that's "Perfect" you will see the difference. idk how long you've been playing for but the more competitive you get at this game the more technical you will get too. Believe me, your style and balance will change over time.

  • @didly That's not true at all. I used to play on a primarily decent pad that would give out plenty of pad misses / goods / boos. Then I moved to another pad which is infinitely better and that, in turn, made me better. My perfect attack was always good, it was just made to seem not as good due to the bad pads.
