The Oregon State Police has released a startling 27-second video highlighting a head-on crash involving one of its troopers.

The video, which was taken last year in Eastern Oregon near Burns, shows OSP Trooper Josh Nagle driving to an injury crash on Highway 20 during icy conditions.

The video shows the trooper passing More.. a semi and then soon after a gray pickup loses control and slams into the trooper's vehicle.

Nagle, who had been with OSP for one year, steered to the right shoulder in an attempt to avoid the pickup but was struck nearly head-on. After the initial impact, a dump truck following Nagle's patrol car struck the rear of the involved pickup.

Emergency workers spent about 30 minutes using 'Jaws of Life' to extricate Nagle before he and the other driver were transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the pickup was cited and convicted for failure to maintain a lane of travel.

"We are thankful this crash wasn't a fatal reminder and that both drivers recovered from their injuries," said Chris Brown, Oregon State Police superintendent."

"We hope this video reminds everyone to use your safety restraints and to be aware at all times, especially when winter and wet weather conditions can make driving challenging for anyone."

  • I wonder why people are saying comments about this guy being drunk. "Failure to maintain a lane of travel." DOES NOT MEAN "Driving while intoxicated." I would not have cited this driver for that violation even for hitting the trooper due to icy conditions. Its an unfortunate accident that thankfully didn't result in death.

  • Looks to me like the driver got rear-ended and he got pushed into the other lane.

  • Nice dashcam. I like how it has all the live vehicle statuses like brakes and lightbar, etc. I wonder what kind it is and how much. Very cool.

  • A similar accident happened to me 4 years ago. A Jaguar lost control and crossed the center line and hit me head on!.

  • 55 mph is a little too fast on a icy road i will drive 40-45mph or the speed who the truckers drive he passed. Always drive carefull and a bit slowly on icy or heavy rain conditions

  • The guy in the truck that lost it is probably lucky the trooper passed that dump truck....would have been bad news to hit it vs a cruiser. Glad everyone lived!

  • I called that car crash

  • @diddlum YOU ARE Right the truck was rear ended resulting in an out of control situation looks like he got screwed failure to maintain control is mute disregard my last statement

  • failure to maintain safe control of a motor vehicle is the only violation and FYI the light bar or sirens were not activated and the police officer was traveling 55mph on wet roads (who hasn't) wet roads cold conditions black Ice truck loses control of all steering is what appears happened oregon law is very strict but the vehicles mutually hit each other both were not in control though just stating what I see thats all dont brutalize me

  • @Hbryant188 they should have cited him for not dieing or killing some one

  • That's one of the worst things to see while driving.
