Trying a different kind of instructions, please let me know if you find it helpful, and whether you'd prefer image and text instructions.

There are a few things you need to remember when building 3D sprite papercrafts:

Use nice thick paper. The thicker, the better.

Score every fold. Every single one. If you're using the lineless version, use the lined for a reference to where to score.

Use good glue! Glue sticks are definitely not suitable, but any PVA glue should work fine.

You need to fold as accurately as possible. Break out your ruler and measure the gaps if you need to.

And don't forget to have fun!

It can be a bit difficult, so if you're a beginner, find something simpler to do first.
You can view the entire 3D sprites collection here: http://ultimatepapercraft.blogspot.com/search/label/3D%20Sprites
Featuring Mario himself as well.
