  • I saw this movie in the theatre when it came out. I've watched it countless times on TV since then. Best western ever.

  • John Ford's masterpiece. John Wayne's greatest performance. And the score is almost as beautiful as the movie. "Lets Go Home, Debbie."

  • Greatest movie ever made!

  • This music just makes me want to go out searching for something...anything...

  • @squirell1952: : You need to exercise a more critical eye - this movie is saying the exact opposite - Ethan, the ultimate racist, is left at the end as he appeared at the beginning - all alone, with only his hatred. No doubt you'd be a bit racist, too, if you had to live with the threat of attacks that left your loved ones dead. Both Ethan & Scar portray that point of view. It was not an easy or simple time or place to be alive. Read up on the history of the place and times.

  • @squirell1952 He may have apologized but he didn't mean it. They were portrayed poorly in the eyes of John Wayne in the film because John Waynes character isn't a good guy. The desert is portrayed as a crewel place and the first and last scene is him coming from the desert and leaving the desert. Learn some film noir.

  • @squirell1952 I know JF apologised, but to cut out incidents were Wayne and Hunter ill treated the Indian girl would not be telling the story.Do we want people thinking that the wild west was one great hippee love in?.American Indians and the settlers lived in an age were life was cheap and pollitical correctness were unheard of.To cut out incidents that we are discussing, would do the movie industry and the story of the wild west a great dis-service.

  • @squirell1952 the film showed how it was.brutal and ugly.

  • @squirell1952 I'll drop my reparations in a slot machine.

  • My all time favorite John Ford masterpiece!

  • @cypruskev actually he was a soldier from the south in True Grit as well
