This deer was with 3 others, all racing OFF the property I was on toward the newly-built high fence on adjacent land. I was driving the perimeter road and the deer were spooked due to my vehicle. ALL FOUR deer hit the fence hard, but only this one appeared injured. It was dead in 90 seconds, probably from a broken neck. I had no means of "putting it down." I posted the video to show how these high deer fences can harm wildlife. I also hunt, but would never in a high fence enclosure. These fences are used by wealthy landowners for managing trophy bucks, but the ethics of hunting deer even in a thousand acre enclosure are much debated. Wildlife is the property of the public, not the individual, and such fences disrupt natural movement patterns. Deer enclosures, in my opinion, should never have been allowed by state wildlife agencies.

  • Great Video. A wealthy co-worker of mine fenced in a square mile...and they had to count the deer that naturally habitated the area. Its not like they were even farm raised! They trapped the deer...videotaped them...and them sold them for up to $30,000. I tried to persuade her otherwise....but the bottom line is always money

  • @Methos713 yes and the government has other options for farmers too not just the option of harvesting the animals. The Government will first suggest the farmer allows hunters to access his property. They can also relocate the animals or have natives harvest them for the Farmer (Natives can hunt year round) natives enjoy the meat and can use it to feed less fortunate people (and they do) so there are more options than just what I mentioned before. I mean in Canada not sure bout the USA

  • @CapnCrossbones Its the same here in American too. The wild animal does not belong to the property owner. The owner would have to call the department that manages fish and game for a depredation permit (if the wild animal is messing up crops, land, etc.) or during the hunting season for the specific animal, the owner can get tags from the department to hunt the animal.

  • I abhor hunting, but hearing from an ethical hunter helps me bridge the gap a bit.

  • I was thinking of putting up a high fence to keep coyotes away from my small dogs. I have heard they can jump a fence like a dog. After watching this video, I think I will build a shorter fence.

  • @dlstb I am not looking to argue I see your points and they are good points. I just wanted to add some info. Here on Farm property if deer are present on the property with no escape they are still the Crowns Deer. Meaning people are not allowed to claim ownership of those animals here. This way if a Farmer has issues with Deer on his/her property they can not simply harvest the animals or kill them they need to go through authorities first. Farmers need a license to hunt on there proterty

  • Cows, sheep, pigs, and horses were all wild animals to start with. Your argument that deer cannot be property are tantamount to saying that these animals have always been human property and never existed in the wild. The fact is that someone somewhere had to capture wild animals and start practicing animal husbandry at some point. Why do you want to say that it isn't okay to do so in today's world?

  • Where do you get off saying that wildlife is not the property of the landowner? If I put up a fence around my property and deer happen to be present within that area and I manage them by culling as well as providing then how are they not my deer? Do you really think that farmers cattle don't belong to them too? Or can man only own certain types of animals in your world? A deer is an animal. A cow is an animal. You can own a deer just as well as you can own a cow.

  • i hoped u took the deer home though to eat

  • @xbeast133 retard look at what he wrote under the video. he had no means of putting it down dumbass
